Astro Physics (featuring Skilf + Deep Black) Astro-Physics are a live Brighton based hip hop/drum 'n' bass/funk band who draw influence from a wide range of genres to create a unique sound loved by a huge variety of fans. They have played at a number of events across the UK such as; the Grassroots Festival in Hull, supporting Pendulum at Coventry Uni and headlining at the Contact Theatre in Manchester as part of a MOBO showcase. Recently Astro Physics appeared at the Concorde 2 in Brighton, and performed to a rowdy full capacity venue. The band have two front men: Skilf and Deep Blak, two highly acclaimed rappers who are renowned for their magical blend of lyrics and dynamic performances in the live environment. Between them, they have supported a number of different artists such as Ghostface Killah, KRS 1, Rodney P, Skitz, Killer Keller, Skinnyman, Task Force, Andy C, Grooverider, Dynamite MC and many more. Skilf started as a drum' n' bass MC before moving onto hip hop with his debut solo album 'Original Visions' which has been well received by both the media and the public. Deep Blak has been rapping for several years and built up a massive fan base in his home town Northhampton, before moving to Brighton. The four other members - Steve Rainbow, Will Gardner, Martin Deering and Kai Smith all went to the same music college (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) and are well trained in both classical and contemporary styles. Their meticulous approach and precise execution keeps the set tight. When performing, their experience and fluidity shines through, complementing Skilf and Deep Blak’s barrage of lyrics. There is a solid chemistry between the musicians and the MC’s, which is very apparent when they perform, and it is this essence that continues to push Astro-Physics to new heights.
