Birdpen take their influences from the films and music of John Carpenter, the world, Birds, Bill Hicks, Chris Morris, Pink Floyd, Mike Patton, Squarepusher, Beck, BJTM, Boards of Canada, George Orwell, Douglas Adams, British Sea Power, Robots and Machines, Confusion, Love, Hate, War and Peace, the television, books and living life in the 21st century. “The past, future and the present, we are all a small groove on a big record”. 

Based in Southampton, England where they write and produce their material, Birdpen are Mike Bird (guitars, electronics) and Dave Pen (vocals, keys, guitars). With the past 12 months spent writing and recording material, Birdpen are now looking to progress in 2007. The ‘Discussing Robots’ 7” single, the ‘Fake Kid EP’ and the ‘Be Yourself EP’ have been greatly received by national and international press, and gained radio play throughout the world.

Recent projects also include working with London based band Archive of which Dave Pen is one of 3 singers and has toured across Europe, playing in venues and arenas supporting acts including Muse, Massive Attack and Placebo. Birdpen have also played at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, The Netherlands with a range of acts including Franz Ferdinand and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives.

In the press Birdpen have been compared to The Beta Band, Depeche Mode, Spiritualized and Kraftwerk to name but a few.
